under the bamboo tree

You Capture, week four . I'm doing it! I'm still participating! Me, Erin, the girl who flakes out on everything hasn't dropped out yet!

I'm discovering that the only thing I am at all decent at photographing is my kids. Really, photo "assignments" are proving to be waaaay beyond my range of talent. I thought challenging myself would be fun, but I am instead just getting frustrated and feeling stupid. I don't like doing things I'm not good at. This "only enjoying things I can already do" thing is NOT my best quality, so I am pressing on.

The theme this week was shadows.

I ended up getting this picture of, uh, my kid... with, uh, some shadows.

And no-- it isn't a bamboo tree. It's a willow tree. But that isn't as fun, because it doesn't conjure up the image of Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien doing the cake walk.

  1. You are lovely. And your blog is fun to read. I just read it! All of it. Without stopping to do anything else. (Except sleep maybe)

  2. well...no matter what, it's a great shot.

I can do my kids and objects, but it seems the minute I photograph other people and/or their familys...FAIL.

I don't know why that is. Too critical? Too nervous. Not sure.

  4. Nice photo, and good for you for sticking with it. I haven't done one of these things because I can't even remember to do the first one much less the 2nd, 3rd, and so on.

  6. Great shot! At first glance it looked like a sweet, soft baby with barbed wire shadows all over him. I'm glad it's a willow (lol) but it's still a nice interplay of textures. Really nice job!

  7. I was so scared for your little one at first glance. I'm glad it was a willow tree that I was seeing...shadows can be deceiving. I love your blog. I think I will add it to my blogs of note.

  8. I love this picture, the shadows are so sharp! It is also sweet how Alice is so interested in the willow branch, I am guessing it was really cool for her to feel. :)
